2026 sees White Sheet Radio Flying Club soar into its 51st year at one of Britain’s finest slope sites. Perched high on the rolling chalk downs of Wiltshire, White Sheet Hill offers superb lift and big skies, we’re proud to have flown here for over half a century. From the balsa-built beginnings to today’s impressive scale models, tradition and progress fly side by side. Modern composite gliders share the slope with beautifully crafted vintage designs, while fast F3F racers, elegant F5J thermal soarers, PSS, DLG, and foam favourites like the Zagi and Ahi ensure there’s a place in the sky at White Sheet Radio Flying Club for everyone.
Whether you’re taking your first steps into RC flying or you’ve been on the sticks for decades, WSRFC offers good company, shared know-how, plenty of laughter and a genuinely warm welcome.

Yes, White Sheet Open Slopes, originally scheduled for Sunday 2nd August now rescheduled to – Saturday 1st August.
Whether you’re a regular slope flyer or have been thinking about giving it a go, Open Slopes is a great opportunity to enjoy a relaxed day’s flying with fellow members. Bring along your favourite glider, scale soarer, or any model designed to soar, and enjoy the variety of aircraft and friendly company that always makes these events worthwhile.
If you’re new to RC gliding, why not bring along your new aircraft? Open Slopes is an ideal place to learn, with plenty of experienced pilots on hand who are always happy to offer advice, guidance and encouragement.
As always, let’s make safety part of a great day’s flying. Before heading to the slope, give your model a thorough pre-flight check, confirm your transmitter is set to the correct model, and make sure all control surfaces are moving in the correct direction and with the correct throws. Then add one final “Pete Safety Cushion” — ask a fellow member to cast a fresh pair of eyes over your model before its first flight of the day. It’s a simple habit that can prevent an avoidable mishap, protect your model, and help keep everyone safe. There will always be someone happy to help.
With the checks complete, get those chargers connected, pack your lunch, and enjoy a great day’s flying!

Scale Day – Sunday 9th August – (res. 30th Aug)
Scale Days…
Whether you’re bringing along a beautifully detailed scale model or simply coming to enjoy the flying and good company, Scale Days are always a popular feature of the club’s flying calendar. They are an excellent opportunity to admire the craftsmanship of fellow members, exchange ideas, and spend a relaxed day in the Wiltshire countryside. If you don’t currently have a scale model of your own, you are still very welcome to come along, enjoy the atmosphere, chat with fellow members, and see some of the beautiful aircraft that make these days so special.
One of the great pleasures of scale gliding is watching these beautifully crafted models in flight. From a distance they are often mistaken for their full-size counterparts, gracefully cruising the lift, searching for the next thermal, or carving elegant aerobatic manoeuvres through the sky. With several scale gliders sharing the sky at the same time, it is often easy to forget you are watching models at all.
While many scale gliders are capable of impressive performance, they are at their very best when flown in a smooth, realistic manner that reflects the aircraft they represent. It is this combination of craftsmanship, flying skill and realism that makes Scale Day such a pleasure for both pilots and spectators alike.
Of course, there is more to a Scale Day than simply flying. White Sheet offers some of the finest slope-soaring scenery around, with magnificent views stretching across the surrounding countryside. Whether you are standing on the edge of the slope watching graceful gliders ride the lift, or simply sitting back with a mug of tea and your lunch while enjoying the banter with fellow members, there is something rather special about spending a day on the hill.
Even when the weather makes us wait for that perfect cycle of lift, the atmosphere, camaraderie and spectacular setting, at the end of the day members always head home feeling it was a day well spent. After all, the flying is what brings us together, but it is the place, the people and the shared passion that keep us coming back.

As is tradition, Scale Day is reserved specifically for scale glider flying, allowing everyone to enjoy the unique character of the event and the opportunity to appreciate these beautifully crafted aircraft together.
Please be advised that the event may instead take place on the Saturday closest to the scheduled date if conditions are expected to be more favourable. Should Nick decide that Saturday offers the better weather for scale flying, he will make the decision on or before the preceding Friday.
The final on/off decision will normally be announced on Friday afternoon or evening, although occasionally it may not be confirmed until Saturday if the weather remains uncertain.

Looking Ahead – The White Sheet English Open F3F Competition –
It’s August already! and with it comes one of White Sheet’s longest-standing traditions – the White Sheet English Open F3F Competition.
This year’s event is planned for Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August, weather permitting.
For anyone who has never experienced F3F before, this is one event not to miss. Often described as the Formula One of RC gliding, F3F combines cutting-edge composite gliders, (like F1 cars) exceptional pilot skill (like F1 drivers) and split-second precision (well mostly like F1) as competitors race against the clock over a 1-kilometre course, flying ten laps between two 100-metre turn points using nothing but the energy of the wind. It’s a thrilling spectacle to watch, with the fastest runs often completed in little more than 30 seconds.
The first thing many visitors notice is the unmistakable sound. As these highly refined gliders accelerate along the slope, slicing through the air at remarkable speed, they produce that unmistakable high-pitched scream that echoes across White Sheet. Once you’ve heard it, you’ll never forget it.
Whether you’re an experienced F3F pilot, curious about trying your first competition, or simply want to watch some of the finest slope soaring pilots in action, we’d love to see you there. Newcomers are especially welcome, and there is always plenty of help and encouragement available from Mike, Will and the other competitors. They are a friendly bunch and always happy to share advice… although, being a competition, don’t be surprised if they keep a few of their winning secrets to themselves! 😀
If you’ve ever wondered what today’s high-performance RC gliders are capable of, this is the perfect opportunity to see them flown at their absolute limits.
As always, Mike will keep everyone updated on the weather and whether conditions are suitable for the competition to go ahead. The final decision will normally be made no later than the Friday before the event.
